Mindfulness

Mindfulness is about being fully awake in our lives. It is about perceiving the exquisite vividness of each moment. We feel more alive. We also gain immediate access to our own powerful inner resources for insight, transformation, and healing.

The Discovering Resilience stream within the Program for Faculty Development has been in place since 2011. Originally established with the support of the University of Toronto AMM – MIND program, the Discovering Resilience stream was developed and maintained by leaders, teachers and faculty from McMaster University, area hospitals, family health teams and the community. This faculty development stream is designed to provide opportunities for learning about mindfulness and resilience related to health care and education for all members of the FHS faculty and staff.

Each year the Discovering Resilience stream provides educational offerings to meet the needs of the faculty and staff. These include courses such as Introduction to Mindfulness, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, Mindful Self Compassion, Deepening Awareness, Compassion Fatigue, Mindful Teaching and Mindful Communication. The variety of courses allows participants to choose the type of course that best suits their preferences. The Discovering Resilience stream also participates in research related to the impact of the education offerings on the participants.
